Day 1
Arrive in Paro
Day 2
Walk to Taktshang Monastery. It’s a good chance to acclimatise for the rest of the trek.
Day 3
Paro to Jele Dzong
Time: 4 hrs
If the day is bright, the trail offers a broad view of Paro valley. The trail is fairly easy. We camp at 3,536 m.
Day 4
Jele Dzong to Tsaluna
Time: 5-6 hrs
Today, we descend through the forest of silver fir, pine, rhododendron, and hemlock to the camp near a stream at about 3,000 m. We can visit Tsalu Ney, a sacred 14th century temple where Guru Rinpoche is said to have meditated
Day 5
Tsaluna to Phajoding
Time: 5-6 hrs
Today, we climb to Pumo La at about 3,400 m. After two hours, we reach Phajoding at 3,750 m where we camp. The Phajoding hillside is dotted with numerous meditation centres. The big buildings of Phajoding monastery are below the campsite. We can have a beautiful view of Thimphu city from Phajoding.
Day 6
Phajoding to Thimphu
Time: 2-3 hrs
Today’s trail descends sharply through blue pine forests to Thimphu.

Thimphu to Punakha

Return to Paro
Day 10
Depart from Paro
